Finalists Announced! QUEST 2015 Community Energy Builder Awards

Ottawa, Ontario – October 22, 2015. Today QUEST announced the finalists for the 2015 Community Energy Builder Awards. The Community Energy Builder Awards are presented annually by QUEST to recognize leadership and innovation in advancing Smart Energy Communities in Canada. The Awards are presented in three categories which represent the three principal community energy building sectors: (1) Utility & Energy Service Provider, (2) Real Estate Sector and (3) Local Government.

Finalists in the Utility & Energy Service Provider Category are: Algoma Power Inc. for being a valuable partner in the development of the Town of Wawa’s Community Energy Plan; SustainCo for its evidencebased approach to energy efficiency; and ENMAX for its plans to integrate Combined Heat and Power (CHP) into its Calgary District Energy Centre.

Finalists in the Real Estate Sector Category are: Windmill Developments for the Eddy Condominium which offers six storeys of green, urban condos that set new standards for architecture, design and smart, healthy living in Ottawa, and which exceeds energy efficiency standards by 50% and incorporates a geo-exchange heating/cooling system; Reid’s Heritage Homes for successfully completing a 5-home Net Zero Energy project in Guelph, Ontario; and Stanton Renaissance Ltd. for the sustainable design of the On The GO Mimico condominium project currently under construction in Toronto, which will integrate Combined Heat & Power and geo-exchange systems.

Finalists in the Local Government Category are: the City of Guelph for the Guelph Energy Efficiency Retrofit Strategy; the City of Hamilton for its 2015 Taking Action on Climate Change Community Plan and converting its bus fleet to natural gas; and the City of Toronto for its Exhibition Place District Energy System Project.

Award winners will be announced at the 2015 QUEST Gala Dinner & Awards Ceremony on October 27, 2015, taking place at QUEST’s 9th Annual Conference and Tradeshow, QUEST 2015: Getting Smart About Energy in Our Communities at the Marriott Eaton Centre in Toronto, Ontario.
