By implementing a community energy plan and using energy more efficiently, a community can keep dollars circulating longer in its economy, generate opportunities for local energy projects and jobs and help manage risks from increasing energy prices and a changing climate. In Ontario, the number of communities implementing a community energy plan is growing each year.

OBJECTIVES

Engage with provincial ministries to advance the implementation of CEPs and associated projects through supportive provincial policy and programs.

W

Address barriers to CEP implementation, and continue to work collaboratively to determine and share solutions.

W

Support municipalities and utilities in the community energy planning process through advice, peer learning, and implementation tools.

RECENT SUCCESSES

Supported the Province with its development of the Community Emissions Reduction Planning: A guide for Municipalities.

W

Fostered partnerships between municipalities and utilities to improve data sharing.

W

Recommendations to the Coordinated Land Use Planning Review were reflected in the revised Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe, 2017. Language in the Growth Plan now encourages municipalities to advance Community Energy Planning and to support urban design patterns that promote energy efficiency, demand reduction, and opportunities for integrated energy systems such as district energy.
