Ottawa, Ontario – June 2, 2016. Today, QUEST announced that nominations are now open for the 2016 Smart Energy Communities Awards, which will be presented October 17, 2016 at QUEST’s 10th Annual Conference and Tradeshow, QUEST2016, in Calgary, Alberta.

The Smart Energy Communities Awards are presented annually to recognize leadership and innovation in advancing Smart Energy Communities in Canada through: Energy Integration, Energy Efficiency, Energy Collaboration, and the Broader Good. The categories represent the three principal Smart Energy Community sectors: (1) Local Public Service Sector, (2) Real Estate Sector and (3) Utility and Energy Service Providers.

“Communities, the places we live, work, commute, and play, account for 60% of energy use in Canada, as well as over half of all greenhouse gas emissions,” said Brent Gilmour, Executive Director of QUEST. “This makes our communities essential for achieving federal, provincial and territorial government GHG and energy objectives and Smart Energy Communities offer the solution for how they get there,” said Gilmour.

The nomination period for the Smart Energy Communities Awards is open from June 2, 2016 until August 25, 2016. Finalists will be announced on September 28, 2016, with Award winners being honoured at the QUEST2016 Gala Dinner & Awards Ceremony on October 17, 2016, at the Westin Calgary.
