Ottawa, Ontario – May 16, 2017. Today, Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) – CanmetENERGY – Ottawa and QUEST – Quality Urban Energy Systems of Tomorrow announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding to cooperate on the advancement of Smart Energy Solutions across Canada.

The collaboration is intended to facilitate joint research and technical support for micro-grids, community energy planning, distributed energy resources and integration, combined heat and power (CHP), district energy, as well as develop and support programming, networking and training activities for Canadian communities.

“QUEST is excited to be linking with NRCan,” said Brent Gilmour, Executive Director of QUEST “after many years of working together, better formalizing our relationship will allow us to be more coordinated in our activities to grow and service the Smart Energy Communities marketplace in Canada.”

Smart Energy Solutions are technological innovations that take advantage of opportunities to improve energy efficiency beyond individual buildings to encompass whole communities. By taking a holistic approach to energy supply and demand, Smart Energy Communities benefit from improved energy efficiency, enhanced reliability, decreased costs and reduced greenhouse gas emissions.

“I am proud that our department is taking part in this great example of Canadian innovation. The collaboration we are announcing today reflects our government’s commitment to clean energy. We firmly believe that growing our economy goes hand in hand with protecting our environment, and Smart Energy Solutions can play a huge part in that,” said Jim Carr, Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources.
