Taking Climate Action: Tools, Powers and Strategies for Local Governments

If you’re a mayor, councillor or administrator of a local government, you know that reducing your community’s energy consumption and emissions is a big challenge. Where do you begin, and perhaps more importantly, what powers and tools are available to help you achieve your aims?

In this webinar, presenter Carl Duivenvoorden will share:

  • How NB’s Community Planning Act works, and how it can be used by local governments to achieve sustainability goals
  • NB’s new Statement of Public Interest Regulation, and its role in guiding and backstopping local initiatives
  • Land use planning and control opportunities within the legal authority of local governments (IE plans and by-laws)
  • Additional policies, strategies and best practices available to local governments

You’ll go away with a clear understanding of how legal authority works, and what tools are available to help local governments achieve their sustainability goals.
