QUEST Canada Becomes a Registered Charity

October 5, 2023 – Today, QUEST Canada is excited to announce that it has become a registered Canadian charity with the mission to help communities in Canada establish coordinated local action on energy and emissions.

As a registered charity, QUEST Canada will now be able to accept donations, of any size, and issue tax receipts, entitling donors to receive up to half of their contribution back when they file their Canadian tax return. This change also enables QUEST Canada to seek grants and funding opportunities from foundations and grantees that require a charitable registration number from applicants.

Independent and non-partisan, QUEST Canada will continue in its pursuit of research, community collaboration, and advocacy efforts in alignment with its charitable purpose:

    1. To advance education by conducting research relating to community energy and the energy transition, disseminating research findings to the public.
    2. To protect and preserve the environment for the benefit of the public by conserving and restoring ecosystems through sustainable energy practices, climate change mitigation and adaptation, as well as clean growth strategies and policies.

“We’re pleased to share the news of QUEST Canada’s new status as a registered Canadian charity. This milestone not only affords us the opportunity to accept donations from individuals, organizations, municipalities and companies, but it also unlocks funding opportunities designated for charitable organizations. This transition aligns with our strategic priority to significantly increase the number of communities prepared to thrive with net-zero emissions strategies. We aim to empower communities through informed energy decisions and supportive energy policies, ultimately building capacity for sustainable growth and environmental leadership.”
