QUEST Canada is pleased to announce the appointment of three new members to three-year terms on our Board of Directors

Ottawa, Ontario // QUEST Canada is pleased to announce Melissa Felder, David Morton, and Catherine Thorn have joined our Board of Directors. With experience in diverse and progressive industries, their appointments will serve to complement QUEST’s work enabling and guiding Canadian municipalities along their pathways to becoming net-zero energy emissions communities.

As convening multiple perspectives from a diverse group of people has always been key in our Board member selection process, QUEST would also like to take the opportunity to thank outgoing members Marty Klyne and Karen Lockridge for their stalwart contributions from 2021 to 2024.

“Over many years QUEST Canada has benefitted from the valuable contributions of several passionate and committed Board members,” says Karen Farbridge, Chair of the QUEST Canada Board of Directors. “We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Marty and Karen for their unwavering dedication and exemplary service. Their impact has been profound, and their efforts have significantly advanced the strength of the organization.”

“We also say welcome to three new Board members, from a variety of backgrounds and locations across the country. Each keen to bring knowledge and skills that will be needed to guide QUEST at this vital time of energy transition in Canada.”

With over twenty years of experience in climate change mitigation work, Melissa Felder is Principal of Melissa Felder & Associates, providing consulting expertise in net-zero energy planning and guidance on the decarbonization of energy systems. This includes evaluating how intended net-zero targets compare against current day infrastructure assets to identify critical planning considerations. Melissa has a Masters in Bio-Resource Engineering from the University of British Columbia.

David Morton is a Professional Engineer with over 45 years of experience in private and public sectors, a strong business, engineering and accounting background, and experience in utility regulation and knowledge of energy policy. As past Commissioner and later Chair and CEO of the British Columbia Utilities Commission, he developed expert-level understanding of the intersection of traditional and renewable energy, infrastructure, and public policy. David holds an engineering degree from the University of Toronto and the ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors.

Catherine Thorn is the Senior Director, Community Energy Planning at Enwave Energy, where she leads the development of new, low-carbon and net-zero district energy systems, including award-winning and landmark projects that have been the first of their kind. A trusted partner to public and private sector organizations who need innovative solutions to achieve their climate action goals, Catherine is a Professional Engineer and holds a degree from the Ivey School of Business.

“The diverse and progressive expertise and critical real-world perspectives these new Board members bring to the table, in the decarbonization of energy systems, utility regulation and energy policy, and innovation in climate action,” Karen concludes, “will be key to tackling the complex challenges ahead, as QUEST Canada continues to lead the way in helping develop the net-zero communities essential for us to collectively meet Canada’s 2050 net-zero targets.
