Position Overview

The role of Bookkeeper/Financial Administrator serves three main functions:

  1. Full cycle bookkeeping, which includes everything from completing basic entries to the year end audit;
  2. Tracking & Reporting related to projects, which includes supporting budget preparation, monitoring financial progress, and working with the project team and Director of Operations; and,
  3. Administration, which includes providing assistance to the Director of Operations & Executive Director, reviewing contracts, conducting research, report generation, and communication.

The Bookkeeper/Financial Administrator ensures that the organization has strong financial reporting from which to make strategic decisions, and that finance related administration and communication are smooth, clear, and efficient across all levels of the organization.

This position also holds responsibility for accurate and highly detailed project reporting. The responsibilities of the role include working with and supporting QUEST’s Management and Project Leads to ensure financial management and accountability of the organization, financial reporting to government and other funders and maintaining a high level of professionalism towards vendors, funders, volunteers, clients and partners.

  • you have an insatiable drive to solve any problem you are presented with.

Your deep understanding of not-for-profit bookkeeping and finance allows you to distill and clearly communicate important financial information to individuals who have varying levels of comfort with the subject matter.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of increasingly progressive experience in bookkeeping and administrative role(s)
  • Experience in the non-profit sector is heavily preferred
  • Demonstrated competence in the execution of full cycle accounting, including management of accounts payable, invoicing, government claims, accounts receivable, deferred revenue, accrued accounts receivable, holdbacks, prepaid expenses, payroll, statutory remittances, reconciling accounts
  • Experience with creating and presenting financial reports including cash flow reports, management reports, and reports for the board of directors
  • Demonstrable knowledge of Canadian accounting standards preferably within non-profit organizations (“ASNPO”) and regulations governing non-profit accounting
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks, Microsoft Office and Google Workspace
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Ability to interpret financial statements and apply their data to actual business operations and decision-making
  • Strong communication abilities (listening, speaking, writing)
  • Experience working independently

Travel

Ability to travel within Canada with an anticipated frequency of 2-4 times per year.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range is $60,000 – $68,250, commensurate with experience
