SUMMARY:An Online Train-the-Trainer Session in Thermal Energy Networks
DESCRIPTION:Join us online June 10 for a TENs Train-the-Trainer SessionThermal Energy Networks are gaining momentum in Canada\, with over 250 systems already in place\, particularly in urban centers and northern communities. But despite this promise\, TENs serve only 3% of our heating demand. \nFor thermal energy networks to emerge as a critical strategy for community-scale building decarbonization in Canada\, there’s an immediate need for knowledgeable regional trainers who can champion\, advise\, and build support in local stakeholders. \nDesigned for regional delivery partners who have relationships with municipalities\, First Nations\, utilities or building sector players\, and the ability to deliver capacity-building and follow-up support\, the training session will: \n\nEquip participants with a clear understanding of TENs fundamentals and their Canadian context.\nEnable trainers to deliver TENs regional presentations and support for their own networks.\nTeach participants how to use and adapt BDA’s TENs deliverables (whitepaper and toolkit) to local needs.\nBegin the creation of a self-sustaining TENs ecosystem where knowledge spreads through regional networks.\nConnect trainers across regions to share lessons learned and keep advancing Thermal Energy Network projects.\n\nThe Benefits \nThis online Train-the-Trainer session aims to equip regional partner representatives\, intermediary organization champions\, and other potential trainers with the knowledge and tools to work with established local partnerships and networks\, and build their awareness and self-confidence to carry TENs education and build support out in their own jurisdictions. \nTrainers will come away armed with a clear understanding of the extent of TENs’ potential\, the techno-economic opportunities present\, and ways to integrate best-practice approaches into municipal\, provincial and federal regulations\, and First Nations’ ways of life. \n Register for the June 10 TENS Train-the-Trainer Session\n \n Understand the Potential of TENs in Canada

SUMMARY:New Pathways to Standardization: A Western Canada Project Initiation Roundtable
DESCRIPTION:Communities spend years developing Community Energy and Emissions Plans\, climate action plans\, and economic development strategies. Yet moving these local energy projects from planning to implementation remains a critical challenge. And while much of the national conversation focuses on federal and provincial policy\, the conditions that ultimately determine whether a project moves forward exist at the local level. \nTo address this gap\, QUEST Canada is convening an expert roundtable. Bringing together practitioners\, industry\, and municipal leaders to investigate the broad\, systemic question: \n“What standardized project implementation infrastructure\, support systems\, and shared approaches\, will help the next 100 communities move energy projects from ambition to implementation\, consistently\, energy-efficiently\, and at greater scale?” \nLocation (map below):Life Sciences Innovation Hub – Innovate CalgaryUniversity of Calgary3655 36 St NW\, Calgary\, AB T2L 1Y8 \nThis roundtable is designed to be a collaborative session operating under the Chatham House Rule. To ensure open\, candid dialogue participants will: \n\nGain Peer & Expert Insights: Learn directly from other practitioners\, utility partners\, and industry experts navigating the real-world realities of the energy transition.\nIdentify Practical Solutions: Move past high-level barriers and uncover concrete\, actionable ways to improve local infrastructure project outcomes.\nExamine Economic Benefits: Explore how localized project implementation can be leveraged to maximize local job creation\, retain economic value\, and attract regional investment.\nShape Future Investments: Help co-create a stakeholder-informed framework and final summary report that will directly inform future funding\, support programs\, and ecosystem investments.\n\n \n View the Roundtable Program (pdf)\n \n \n \n \n \n A realistic Prairies community simulation \nTo ground the conversation\, participants will use a realistic Canadian Prairies community simulation looking to initiate a net-zero related project (e.g.\, deep energy retrofits\, EV charging networks\, microgeneration)\, and then analyse the project initiation process. From this basis we’ll collectively identify challenges and opportunities\, then discuss new pathways to standardization. \n \n Register for the June 23 Workshop\n \n \n \n \n \n Designed to close the gap\, reduce the risk \nAs a community project lead\, roundtable sponsor\, or subject matter expert (i.e. project developer\, energy infrastructure developer\, financier\, or professional service provider\, etc.)\, your involvement plays an important role in supporting communities as they advance practical energy projects that generate economic development. \nCome enjoy the day focusing on knowledge sharing\, relationship building\, and hands-on collaboration between communities and experienced practitioners from across the energy ecosystem. \n \n \n \n \n \n Experts (To-Date!)\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Sheri Young\n Project Director – ICLEI’s ClimateInsight.ca\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Bio\n Sheri uses nature-based solution stories and evidence demonstrated by science to make life better for everyone in a changing climate.
