SUMMARY:Unleashing the Future of Energy
DESCRIPTION:QUEST Canada and Pollution Probe invite you to our interactive one-day national Symposium\, on Tuesday\, June 10\, 2025\, at the St. James Cathedral Centre in downtown Toronto. \nWe’re bringing together the low-carbon energy community of stakeholders\, with a goal of presenting the results of our research\, and a comprehensive database. As well we’ll be highlighting strengths and best practices\, discussing pathways forward\, and above all showcasing innovations needed to get to net zero by 2050. \n \n Register for Unleashing the Future of Energy\n \n \n \n \n \n About the Symposium\nCurrent energy regulation\, policy\, service delivery models\, and market frameworks are prohibitive to scaling up the deployment of the low-carbon innovation needed to hit net-zero targets by 2050. \nThe Low-Carbon Energy Innovation initiative led by Pollution Probe and QUEST Canada\, looked at the regulatory\, policy and business frameworks\, and market conditions that currently exist or are needed in order to enable the innovation we need. \nThis included a scan of existing policies\, programs\, and other factors influencing low carbon energy innovation across Canada\, consultations with a wide range of stakeholders\, and the creation of a comprehensive database for each jurisdiction. \nThis Symposium will provide an opportunity to share key findings\, and engage in discussing pathways forward to enable the low-carbon energy innovation needed by 2050. \nThe anticipated outcome of the project? A holistic\, system-based understanding of what is needed to inform the advancement of lasting innovation frameworks across Canada to enable the deployment of low-carbon innovation in the energy sector. \n \n \n \n \n \n Symposium Program\n\n\n\nTuesday\, June 10\n \n\n\n\nWelcome & Introductions – St. James Cathedral Centre\, 65 Church St. \nQUEST Canada & Pollution Probe \n\n9:00 am\n\n\n\nKeynote Presentation\nSeizing the Energy Moment: Global Lessons\, Bold Leadership\, and the Urgency of Innovation on the Road to Net Zero \nDuke Benjamin\, Strategic Leader for Just Transition\, Climate & Energy\, Germany\, Europe and Africa \n\n9:05\n\n\n\nPresentation\nThe Low-Carbon Energy Innovation Initiative and research results\, including Q&A\nPollution Probe \n\n9:30\n\n\n\nBreak\n\n10:15\n\n\n\nTED Talks-style Presentations\nInnovation in the Regulated Energy Sector\nTyler Bryant\, Director\, Decarbonization and Sustainability\, FortisBCDavid Conn\, Stakeholder Relations Manager\, ATCO GasEsther Kang\, Regulatory Affairs Consultant\, Toronto HydroMima Micic\, Manager\, Innovation\, Ontario Energy Board \n\n10:45\n\n\n\nLuncheon Presentation\nPerspectives on Innovation in Québec \nFrançois Émond\, Commissioner\, Régie de l’énergie\, Québec \n\n12:15 pm\n\n\n\nTED Talks-style Presentations\nPerspectives from Energy Users and Unregulated Markets\nMathieu Lévesque\, Technology & Alternatives Lead\, Building Decarbonization AllianceShoshana Pasternak\, Senior Associate\, InvenergySara Jane Souliere\, SL Indigenous Advisory ServicesMayuran Srikantha\, VP Programs\, Enerva Energy Solutions \n\n1:15\n\n\n\nBreak\n\n2:15\n\n\n\nBreakout Room Discussions x 3\nRoom 1 – Net-Zero Policies\nRoom 2 – Energy Innovation & Regulation \nRoom 3 – Inclusive Innovation & Workforce\nModerated by QUEST Canada & Pollution Probe \n\n3:00\n\n\n\nClosing Plenary\nQUEST Canada & Pollution Probe \n\n4:30-5:00\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n Definition\nLow-carbon innovation strategies refer to net-zero policies\, regulatory frameworks and factors that enable research\, development\, deployment\, new practices\, new business models\, and new products or services that reduce GHG emissions in the energy sector\, aligning with Canada’s net-zero targets. SUMMARY:Launch: Low-Carbon Energy Innovation Community Frameworks
DESCRIPTION:Practical tools designed to support rural\, remote and Indigenous communitiesJoin us Tuesday\, January 27 @11:00am for the launch of the Low-Carbon Energy Innovation Community Frameworks\, a new set of practical tools designed to support rural and remote communities and Indigenous communities in navigating and benefiting from the low-carbon energy transition. \nThis joint project by Pollution Probe and QUEST Canada aims to address long-standing gaps in how low-carbon energy projects are developed and implemented beyond urban contexts. \nThe webinar will introduce two frameworks: one tailored to rural and remote communities\, and one designed specifically for Indigenous communities. Both frameworks use a flexible\, “choose your own adventure” approach that recognizes the unique conditions\, priorities\, governance structures\, and capacities of each community and project. They are intended for a wide range of users\, including Indigenous governments and organizations\, municipalities\, utilities\, industry partners\, community energy champions\, and government agencies. \nParticipants will also explore real-world case studies demonstrating how each framework can be applied in practice to support innovative low-carbon energy projects. The session will highlight how communities across Ontario can use these frameworks to strengthen engagement\, build social acceptance\, and ensure communities are active participants and beneficiaries in the energy transition. \nHave questions\, looking for additional information? Please reach out to gpinchin@questcanada.org \n Register for the Community Frameworks Launch Here
