SUMMARY:An Online Train-the-Trainer Session in Thermal Energy Networks
DESCRIPTION:Join us online June 10 for a TENs Train-the-Trainer SessionThermal Energy Networks are gaining momentum in Canada\, with over 250 systems already in place\, particularly in urban centers and northern communities. But despite this promise\, TENs serve only 3% of our heating demand. \nFor thermal energy networks to emerge as a critical strategy for community-scale building decarbonization in Canada\, there’s an immediate need for knowledgeable regional trainers who can champion\, advise\, and build support in local stakeholders. \nDesigned for regional delivery partners who have relationships with municipalities\, First Nations\, utilities or building sector players\, and the ability to deliver capacity-building and follow-up support\, the training session will: \n\nEquip participants with a clear understanding of TENs fundamentals and their Canadian context.\nEnable trainers to deliver TENs regional presentations and support for their own networks.\nTeach participants how to use and adapt BDA’s TENs deliverables (whitepaper and toolkit) to local needs.\nBegin the creation of a self-sustaining TENs ecosystem where knowledge spreads through regional networks.\nConnect trainers across regions to share lessons learned and keep advancing Thermal Energy Network projects.\n\nThe Benefits \nThis online Train-the-Trainer session aims to equip regional partner representatives\, intermediary organization champions\, and other potential trainers with the knowledge and tools to work with established local partnerships and networks\, and build their awareness and self-confidence to carry TENs education and build support out in their own jurisdictions. \nTrainers will come away armed with a clear understanding of the extent of TENs’ potential\, the techno-economic opportunities present\, and ways to integrate best-practice approaches into municipal\, provincial and federal regulations\, and First Nations’ ways of life. \n Register for the June 10 TENS Train-the-Trainer Session\n \n Understand the Potential of TENs in Canada

SUMMARY:From Implementation to Job Creation: A Western Canada Project Initiation Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Municipal and Indigenous leaders and staffs across Western Canada are being asked to lead their communities through one of the most significant energy landscape shifts in generations\, and most are doing it without a clear map. As most municipal and band offices don’t have in-house clean energy engineering and financing expertise\, nor the networks to find the right partners\, the cost of getting it wrong is real. \nTranslating ambitious plans into a concrete net-zero energy community project – that contributes to the local tax base and creates local jobs – takes a viable business case\, a funding strategy\, and a realistic path from planning\, to initiation\, to implementation – and is a ‘different-level’ next step in the process entirely. \nDesigned to close the gap\, reduce the risk \nCome spend the day with peers from across Manitoba\, Saskatchewan\, Alberta\, and British Columbia to work on similar challenges alongside a group of Subject Matter Experts in sustainable energy project development\, financing\, policy and funding. \nWho should attend? This workshop is designed for municipal and Indigenous community staff members and elected leaders\, and potential project developers\, energy infrastructure builders\, financers\, and professional service providers involved in: \n\nEnergy transition initiatives\, such as community solar\, building retrofits\, electric vehicle infrastructure\nProject planning\, financial management\, and economic development roles\, and\nLocal public engagement and consultation\n\nLocation (map below): Life Sciences Innovation Hub – Innovate CalgaryUniversity of Calgary3655 36 St NW\, Calgary\, AB T2L 1Y8 \nWhy Attend? Through hands-on sessions\, participants will learn how to advance their community’s energy project concept – refine its scope\, strengthen its financial strategies\, and identify doable next steps. \nParticipants will leave with: \n\nA refined project scope and definition\, and clear critical path\nAn initial financial model and detailed funding strategy\nA solid plan for hiring contractors and managing project execution\nAn increased confidence to navigate a sustainable energy projects’ challenges\, and\nA strong\, local network of funders\, consultants\, and innovative\, experienced solution providers\n\n \n View the Workshop Preliminary Program (pdf)\n \n \n \n \n \n So energy spending stays local \nThis workshop is also about identifying and capturing new economic opportunities\, by helping municipalities and Indigenous communities craft well-designed projects that attract the kind of funding that creates local construction and skilled trades jobs\, supports new service businesses\, generates long-term operations and maintenance roles\, and keeps energy spending circulating within the local economy. \n \n Register for the June 23 Workshop\n \n \n \n \n \n SMEs will be there to work with you \nThe working sessions won’t be presentations – they’ll be structured project development time with qualified Subject Matter Experts. You bring your project concept\, and you leave with a clearer scope\, an initial financial framework\, and a set of concrete project initiation next steps. \nParticipants will explore how different types of local energy projects – from community solar and building retrofits\, to EV infrastructure and district energy – will bolster local economic development\, bring skilled new job opportunities\, and support clean energy economy growth across Prairies communities. \nCanada’s transition to low-carbon energy systems represents one of the largest local net-zero development opportunities in decades – with great potential to attract solid investment as we build more resilient local economies. Waiting for the right moment to move an energy project from idea to action? The time is now. \n \n \n \n \n \n Subject Matter Experts & Panelists (To-Date!)\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Sheri Young\n Project Director – ICLEI’s ClimateInsight.ca\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Bio\n Sheri uses nature-based solution stories and evidence demonstrated by science to make life better for everyone in a changing climate.
